Pixelated paintings

Pixlelated photo process

Just to show you how I work with photos. The final product isn't recognizable unless you know the original photo.

I choose a photo based on colour palette, line, and composition. Here's a photo I took in Burano.

Then I enhance the colour and pixelate the image to fit into one inch squares on my canvas.

Then I begin with my normal painting process, which is painting 13-20 layers of painting on tissue, one atop the other. For the final layer, I paint the pixelated squares one by one onto the canvas.

Then once it's done, I tear back to reveal the painting layers. This is the stage of the painting where you would come to the studio and we would discuss how it's looking and what you like or if you want changes. I can make any changes before I resin the painting.

And here is the final. I added the squares to unite the composition. Then I turned it, because I liked the horizontal justification. But it could go either way.

Similarly, this photo became this painting.

And this photo of origami birds became this painting.

So, you don't have to worry too much about which photo we use. I'll alter the photo and ultimately tear it back and add lines/circles so the painting composition looks right.
